This morning, at our offices, a press conference was held during which Fondation Rivières underlined the Couillard government's insistence on wanting to relaunch at all costs, in a period of energy surpluses and budget cuts, a program for the construction of small loss-making hydroelectric power plants which goes against the recommendations contained in the recent consultation report on Quebec's energy future, and which includes partners who are the vast majority directly or indirectly linked to reprehensible activities.
Prime Minister Couillard and his government, who promised to govern with “transparency” and “rigor”, have a duty to analyze the relevance of not renewing these contracts and to consider the negative environmental and financial impacts that they can cause. On this last aspect, moreover, Fondation Rivières sent earlier this week a letter to the Minister of Finance, Mr. Leitao.
Present were the godfathers of the Sainte-Anne (Maxim Martin), Moisie (Gaston Lepage) and Rouge (Paul Piché) rivers.
