Today took place a descent of the Magpie River bringing together several stakeholders from the business and political communities of the North Shore. Among the participants: the federal MP for Manicouagan, the political attaché of the MP for Duplessis, and the Ekuanitshit Band Council. The event is organized by the Society for Nature and Parks of Canada, Quebec section (SNAP Quebec) and theAssociation Eaux-Vives Minganie. This is a great way to draw attention to this gem and the need to protect it against future harnessing!
Ecotourism rather than hydroelectricity
Ecotourism development around the Magpie River would be much more advantageous for Quebec. THE National Geographic has also ranked it 2nd in the world as a rafting destination.
