PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Montreal, November 9, 2021 – We unveiled our 2020 Prize List last week and, unfortunately, an error occurred in the handling of our powerful, but oh so complex, database. Our calculations in terms of spill intensity are strictly accurate, but it is by expressing this intensity in terms of the number of inhabitants that we made a mistake.
We have of course corrected everything and updated it in our 2020 winners on our site. And even if there are no major or important changes, for the sake of transparency and integrity, we are communicating this to you today.
You will surely notice that Trois-Rivières is now in first position in the ranking of the 10 largest cities in Quebec. It occupies this position because the City experienced a major breakdown in September 2020 which caused a continuous spill for 16 days. Had it not been for this accident, Longueuil would once again be the worst city in Quebec in terms of wastewater discharge, for a second consecutive year.
Now, as the municipal elections are behind us, you have everything in hand to call on your elected officials to act now. Because this major environmental problem will get worse and faster, mainly due to climate change. This is why we cannot afford to wait. Especially not 10 years old!
