Nearly 30 municipalities are working with Abrinord and the Fondation Rivières to improve the water quality of the Rivière du Nord.
Sainte-Adèle, April 15, 2025 – Twenty-eight (28) municipalities in the Laurentians have committed to working together to protect and sustainably improve the water quality of the Rivière du Nord watershed. This ambitious collective commitment, led by the Abrinord watershed organization, is accompanied by 11 key commitments, ranging from reducing wastewater overflows, correcting non-compliant septic tanks, managing stormwater, optimizing the performance of wastewater treatment plants to developing a collective strategy for the eco-recreational development of the Rivière du Nord.
"This is a historic moment. We're not talking about wishful thinking here, but rather a genuine collective action plan. We want to return the Rivière du Nord to our citizens, make it suitable for swimming in the medium term, and restore it to a state we can all be proud of."
Paul Germain, maire de Prévost
To ensure the transition from commitment to concrete results, Abrinord and the Rivers Foundation will soon begin the first phase of diagnostic work with municipalities to determine the current situation and obtain a clear picture of the priority actions to be taken on the river. The goal is to develop an action plan that elected officials have committed to adopting before December 31, 2025.
