Letter sent to Luc Brisebois, Mayor of Mont-Tremblant
Subject: New regulations governing navigation on Lac Duhamel
Mr. Brisebois,
The Fondation Rivières would like to congratulate you and your municipal council on the proactive strategy that you have put in place on Lac Duhamel to limit speed and prohibit one-person boats.
For the past 20 years, our organization has been working to preserve Quebec's rivers, and we've seen an increase in the degradation of the riverbanks and seabed with the massive arrival, in recent years, of one-person boats on our bodies of water. Boats of the wakeboat are known to have, among other things, a impact on bank erosion at depths of up to 300 meters, and to replenish sediments at depths of up to 7 meters.
We're aware that this kind of decision will meet with its share of unhappy people, and that's why we wanted to take the time to express our support for the protection of an ecosystem dear to all Quebecers.
In conclusion, we believe that several cities will be tempted to follow in your footsteps. Bravo for having the courage to introduce such regulations!
Benoit Girouard,
Responsible for government relations and consultation
