The behemoth of Quebec's rivers, the patriarch, the Great: the St. Lawrence. It's there, majestic and imposing in its disproportion, not only physically, but also in our minds: everyone has a precious memory of it, a special relationship with it.

The Rivière des Mille Îles is a peaceful sanctuary just a stone's throw from Montreal. It winds its way between Laval and the North Shore, and among the hundred or so islands that populate it, before joining the Rivière des Prairies and the St. Lawrence River. A veritable cradle of biodiversity, the Mille-Îles River nevertheless faces a number of challenges.

The Bonaventure River is, in a way, the muse of all Quebec rivers: they'd all like to be like it, with its clear waters and abundance of salmon! Fascinating, even exotic, the Bonaventure is so popular that it's the scene of a conflict over use... and the appearance of suspicious algae.

The Richelieu River is well known: it serves as a backyard for many Quebecers... or even as a highway. Its bustle in spring and the pleasures it offers in summer are what make it so famous. As a gathering place, it can quickly become noisy. The Richelieu River is rarely discreet: without being eccentric, it's a flashy, exuberant river in spite of itself!

The Kipawa River stretches through the coniferous forests and untamed open spaces of the Témiscamingue region. Far from the major centers, the Kipawa must be earned: it's a 7-hour drive from Montreal and a 10-hour drive from Quebec City! Untouched, untamed beauty unfolds before the eyes of anyone who dares to venture there.

Sometimes witness to a historic battle, sometimes battered by the effects of agriculture, the Châteauguay River has seen it all! This tough cookie also has a flirtatious side: its charms are revived as water quality improves. The Châteauguay is on the rise again.
