Mr Legault,
As citizens and leaders in energy and the environment in civil society, we want to call on you to prioritize energy efficiency.
You dream of dams, these structures that built modern Quebec, we would like to convince you to dream instead of energy efficiency and to work to build the next great pride of Quebec. We assure you of our collaboration to provide a green and practical response. Furthermore, we emphasize that we are concerned, like you, by the duty to ensure that energy efficiency spending produces the expected results.
Energy efficiency is cheaper, more sustainable, more sustainable and more agile than the development of small or large dams and the multiplication of enormous transport lines in agricultural, recreational and natural regions and landscapes. It also allows the sustainable creation of wealth, stable, paying and long-term jobs, it is the obvious choice.
In this first mandate, the environmental pressure is strong, and the pressure to mark your era with the seal of change is just as strong. Kill two birds with one stone: work to reduce the energy consumption of Quebecers while increasing the performance of our economy and our standard of living and benefit from a surplus three times more profitable than the production of the La Romaine dam. Currently, the electricity we avoid consuming is cheaper than any other new project, so it is the choice that will maximize the profit made on our exports.
We represent environmental groups who, since 1997, have united under the banner of the Regroupement des organisms Environnemental en Énergie (ROEÉ) in order to defend the environment in energy issues. Together, we bring together more than 62,000 members and supporters. We want a low-carbon Quebec with integrated planning of its resources, and prioritize the reduction of energy consumption for all production, even from renewable sources. In addition, we are campaigning for transparent, rigorous and public regulation by the Energy Authority.
Mr. Legault, we invite you to mark your era with boldness and vision, by prioritizing energy efficiency over all forms of new energy production, and by making Quebec a leader in an economy resolutely focused on the future. . We also take this opportunity to remind you of the value of our natural environments, well beyond short-term economic calculations.
