Since the publication of our last report, Fondation Rivi\u00e8res has actively contributed to the preservation of Quebec's waterways. Notably, we have ensured the meticulous monitoring of the <\/span>water quality in Beloeil<\/span><\/a> for the region's first open-water swimming pool, thus ensuring the safety of swimmers through a combination of traditional and faster analyses. <\/span><\/p>

This year, Fondation Rivi\u00e8res also published the <\/span>5th edition of the Wastewater Report Card<\/span><\/a>, which highlights a decrease in the number of spills in Quebec, but accompanied by a drastic increase in their intensity and duration, exacerbated by climate change. We have pressured the government to adopt a <\/span>new indicator<\/span><\/a> to measure the real impact of wastewater spills on the environment. <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Faced with the destruction of wetlands, Fondation Rivi\u00e8res has pressured Northvolt throughout the year to minimize its impact on the Richelieu River by organizing several meetings with the company and by <\/span>publicly addressing<\/span><\/a> its North American president. <\/span>The Foundation developed the AuditEAU tool to make information on wastewater treatment plant performance more accessible, a tool that has been adopted by the Ministry of the Environment. These initiatives reflect the Foundation\u2019s ongoing commitment to protecting rivers and improving water management in Quebec.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

We successfully mobilized over 250 people by organizing five <\/span>Grand Splash<\/span><\/a> events, notably in Montreal, Chambly, Sainte-Martine, Saint-Denis-sur-Richelieu, and Batiscan. The goal: to demand better <\/span>public access to Quebec\u2019s shorelines<\/span><\/a> in areas where access is lacking. Fondation Rivi\u00e8res is fighting to bring nature back into cities and contribute to social justice, as water is a collective resource.<\/span> Discussions are ongoing with the Old Port and M<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

This summer, Fondation Rivi\u00e8res successfully mobilized several citizens and elected officials from the Laurentians for the <\/span>first edition of the Grande Descente<\/span><\/a> on the Rivi\u00e8re du Nord, held as part of World Rivers Day. In total, more than 200 people paddled 10 km of the river in Mirabel, acting collectively to improve water quality and accessibility to the Rivi\u00e8re du Nord. The descent concluded with a dinner and celebration featuring Paul Pich\u00e9, Marc Hervieux, and Salom\u00e9 Corbo.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Since September, Fondation Rivi\u00e8res and COVABAR have launched a <\/span>major consultation<\/span><\/a> around the Rivi\u00e8re Richelieu. More than 51 participants, including municipalities, tourism organizations, and river users, have taken part in this initiative to map access points and create an action plan aimed at better protecting the river, promoting balanced coexistence on the water and along the shore, and providing quality access for citizens. Essentially, the goal is to create a model for sustainable coexistence where both residents and visitors can enjoy the river.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

This year, Fondation Rivi\u00e8res campaigned against<\/span>Bill 69<\/span><\/a> alongside the Regroupement des organismes environnementaux en \u00e9nergie (ROE\u00c9) and the Coalition large sur l\u2019\u00e9nergie (CL\u00c9) to denounce the privatization of energy, as well as its consequences on rivers. The C\u00f4te-Nord is one of the regions most threatened by large energy projects, with a significant number of rivers still harnessable in the area. Furthermore, <\/span>our campaign<\/span><\/a> related to Bill 69 has been successful: over 1,000 engaged individuals signed and sent a letter to Minister Fr\u00e9chette urging her to remove the 100-megawatt limit from the government's Bill 69.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In recent months, Fondation Rivi\u00e8res has worked closely with local community and environmental organizations to form the \" <\/span>Vigilance \u00e9nergie et industrie C\u00f4te-Nord<\/span><\/i>\" committee, which is part of the \"Regroupement vigilance \u00e9nergie Qu\u00e9bec<\/span><\/i>\". Local mobilization is crucial to prevent more rivers from being harnessed. We have given several<\/span>lectures<\/span><\/a> to support local activists, particularly on the TES Canada project, which undermines the social acceptability of the wind power sector, essential to the energy transition. One of the local activists against the TES Canada project was present with us at the Parliamentary Commission in Quebec on energy (Bill 69).<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
