A river e<\/span>is a complex natural space in constant evolution, transporting over its entire length flowing water as well as materials resulting from the erosion of riverbanks and riverbeds. The configuration of rivers changes according to flooding and other natural factors.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Understanding river dynamics<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A <\/span>mobility space<\/b> is a specific area where the riverbed moves vertically (sinking or filling) and horizontally (sinuosity) as a result of the natural movement of the riverbed. The mobility of a river, coupled with flood-prone areas<\/span>,<\/span> forms a <\/span>space of freedom<\/b><\/a>. Mapping these zones enables us to consider the dynamics of a watercourse and to develop the territory accordingly, taking into account the natural context of the river.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Several phenomena can change the course of a river. One example is the change in river bed that occurs after a flood. Identify the environmental setting in which the river flows and floods <\/span>promotes the implementation of<\/span>e adaptation measures, relocation of buildings, or the creation of natural mitigation infrastructures. Leaving space for rivers to flood and move, by taking this into account in land-use planning, helps to avoid new public safety issues.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Management by \"freedom space<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Delineating and understanding the \"free\" zone of a watercourse enables riverside communities to be more resilient to flooding and climate change, by preventing the hazards associated with bank failure, erosion and flooding. <\/span>Ultimately, \"open space\" management of watercourses helps to improve water quality and optimize the ecological services associated with river ecosystems. Tightening regulations in this area would also enable the creation of natural areas conducive to the development of green tourism, as well as the preservation of existing natural infrastructures.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
