Port of Montreal at Contrecœur: One for all and all for the copper redhorse

Press release - We announce today the creation of a community of interest made up of representatives of several environmental groups and scientists: La Table ronde pour la défense du chevalier cuivré. The global distribution range of this emblematic fish of our biodiversity is located exclusively in the Greater Montreal area. As a society, we have a responsibility to do everything in our power to ensure the long-term survival and recovery of the only remaining population of this species, whose demographic situation can only be described as dramatic, since the species is on the brink of extinction worldwide.

Development of the port of Montreal in Contrecoeur: several impacts ignored or undervalued

Press release - On February 1, the Montreal Port Authority (MPA) unveiled details of its plans to build a marine terminal in Contrecoeur. The project would occupy 4 km of natural shoreline on the St. Lawrence River, close to a residential area of Verchères in the middle of the countryside, facing the park-like Île Bouchard. The first phase calls for a 675-meter wharf and a transit capacity of 1.15 million containers per year. Fondation Rivières is concerned about this project, given the scale of the apprehended impacts and its incompatibility with the rural, agricultural and tourist uses surrounding the area selected by APM.
