PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Montreal, June 19, 2018 – The team of earth day, involved in the Montréal Bathing Committee, is happy to hand over the organization of the Grand Splash at Fondation Rivières. We are currently co-organizing the edition 2018 and we leave them the orders for 2019.

True to tradition, the Grand Splash in the river Saint Laurent will take place near the Jacques-Cartier quay in the Old Port of Montreal. It is during a period of summer heatwave that Montrealers will be invited to jump into the Saint Laurent to express their desire for better access to the banks of the island, particularly in the city center. Organizers closely monitor the weather to determine the date of the event.

2018, a year full of promises for urban swimming

“The Earth Day team has been involved in the creation of the Grand Splash for 15 years. We could not wish for a better organization than Fondation Rivières to take the reins of the rest of this project, which will be grandiose. Now it's time to register! », declares Mr. Pierre Lussier, director of Earth Day.

The ColiMinder : Precise, real-time measurement of the bacteriological quality of water

This year, the Montréal Bathing Committee will be able to count on real-time water quality measurements to ensure splashers perfect water for swimming. Indeed, Bota Bota, spa-on-the-water, neighboring the body of water where the Grand Splash takes place, has deployed a device on a permanent basis ColiMinder to carry out real-time monitoring of the bacteriological quality of water.

“Monitoring the bacteriological quality of bathing water is a concern of the population. The significant analysis times for both the closure and the opening of bathing areas are an issue of prime importance. The participation of Bota Bota, spa-sur-l'eau will allow us to obtain analyzes of the water quality near the Grand Splash, every 30 minutes instead of the usual 48 hours. We are proud of this innovation which will promote access to water and to take over the organization of the Grand Splash in these conditions,” enthuses Alain Saladzius, president of the Fondation Rivières.

Montreal Swimming Citizen Committee

The Montréal Baignade Citizen Committee is a group of Montreal citizens concerned about the lack of public access to the banks and water of the river Saint Laurent, surrounding the island of Montreal. Every year, they meet during the summer period for the Grand Splash in order to assert their demands to elected officials and citizens. Since 2003, many citizens have invested in the cause.
